PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS: |
The Case Paper Company is celebrating its 50th anniversary in New York City at a gala event on the sixteenth of October; and |
|
WHEREAS: |
Originally located at Broome and Wooster Streets, the Company rapidly expanded, soon moving to a converted nineteenth-century stable on Downing Street and then to Perry Street; in 1959 the Case Paper Company was one of the first major manufacturers to move to Long Island City; it was soon followed by other companies and by printing firms; today, a large graphic arts center is located in Long Island City; and |

WHEREAS: |
The Case Paper Company is one of the largest converters and suppliers of fine printing papers and paperboard in the United States, and the only one in New York City, its national headquarters; in addition to its award-winning headquarters building, it has five locations that are linked by a computer system developed in New York, enabling it to respond immediately to the special needs of its customers; begun by Irving Schaffer and his brothers-in-law David and Oscar Kosh, it is still very much a family enterprise, led by Irving's sons, Peter and Robin; and |

WHEREAS: |
The Case Paper Company's commitment to New York City and its continuing dedication to fostering business development in our city make a vital contribution to New York's economy, |

NOW THEREFORE, |
I, David N. Dinkins, Mayor of the City of New York, in recognition of this important anniversary, do hereby proclaim Saturday, October 16, 1993 in the City of New York as |
"CASE PAPER COMPANY DAY"
